CAN U17: Saidou Alioum learns from Cameroon's elimination

Cameroon's journey in the Africa Cup of Nations, CAN U17, came to a sudden halt at the group stage, a premature exit that leaves a bitter taste.

Yet, despite the disappointment, the Lion Cubs' coach, Saidou Alioum, delivered a clear and forward-looking message during the post-match press conference.

A frustrating but accepted elimination

With candor, the Cameroonian coach reflected on this setback, explaining that despite a delicate position, his players were aiming for victory:

"A draw would have been enough to reach the playoffs, but we wanted all three points," he admitted. "Unfortunately, the scenario didn't work in our favor, and Burkina's result didn't help us either."

Inexperience as a key factor

Alioum did not shy away from addressing his team's shortcomings, particularly in terms of experience. While the Lion Cubs had shone during the UNIFFAC zonal tournament by overwhelming the DRC (6-0), they struggled to reach the same level in the more challenging context of the CAN:

"For many, it was their first time on such a big stage," he explained. "Some didn't manage to get into their tournament. I saw faces I no longer recognized compared to UNIFFAC."

Between regrets and hopes

Despite this elimination, the coach prefers to focus on reasons for hope. He praises the potential of his players and their ability to bounce back: "I remain proud of what the boys showed on the field. This group is full of talent. They need guidance and support to progress. This is just the beginning."

A message filled with optimism and confidence for the future, intended to remind everyone that this generation has not said its last word. Cameroon leaves the competition, but eyes are already on tomorrow.
