CAN U20 Ghana 2027 qualifiers: COSAFA kicks off its race
In February and March 2027, Africa’s top 12 U20 national teams will battle it out for the 25th edition of the Africa U20 Cup of Nations. But first, it’s time for the qualifiers. In the COSAFA zone, the draw took place this Wednesday, and all the teams now know their group-stage opponents.
Three groups, two tickets
The Southern Zone qualifying tournament will unfold in Mauritius from September 18 to 27, 2026. Twelve teams, three groups, and only the two finalists will secure their spots at the CAN U20 Ghana 2027.
Group A: Mauritius, Namibia, Seychelles, Mozambique
Group B: South Africa, Lesotho, Angola, Eswatini
Group C: Zambia, Malawi, Comoros, Botswana
Heavyweights on a mission
South Africa comes in as the favorite. The Amajita are the reigning COSAFA champions and took the Africa U20 crown in 2025 after their triumph in Egypt. But don’t count out Zambia. The inaugural champions in 1983, Zambia remains the most decorated team in the regional competition with 12 titles. Mauritius, playing at home, will be eager to capitalize on their home advantage.
The battle lines are drawn in the COSAFA zone. See you in September in Mauritius to find out who will represent Southern Africa in Ghana.
