Cameroon toppled Morocco in a dramatic penalty shootout and will now face Malawi in the final of the 2026 CAN Women's tournament. Amid the emotion, Valentine Nguele took the stage. Her words were a masterclass in humility, faith, and pride for all women in the profession.

From a lucky break to a final

They weren't even qualified at the start. The expansion of the CAN from 12 to 16 teams opened the door for the Indomitable Lionesses. "We came from very far. We were rescued, so we don't put pressure on ourselves. We go match by match and leave everything in God's hands," Nguele explained.

Five matches, just 2 goals conceded, undefeated—Cameroon's journey has been built on patience, solidarity, and an unbreakable mentality.

A message to all her sisters

Against Morocco, the game plan held firm. A low block, duels won, and a goalkeeper in inspired form. Michaely Bihina saved a penalty in extra time and then three more in the shootout. Cameroon triumphs and reaches a CAN final for the first time in a decade.

Beyond the scoreline, Valentine Nguele wanted to speak to all women coaches. "As a woman, I am proud of this journey. I also want to show my sisters in this profession that you have to go all the way. It's not easy at all. Accept to keep learning and stand strong through every storm. I dedicate this victory to all women coaches."

The final hurdle will be a tall one against Malawi, who defeated Algeria. Cameroon will face a debutant side that has toppled giants to reach this stage. With the same mentality, the same drive, Sunday's final is already one for the history books.
