Casablanca derby: a historic boycott in the making?
The competition committee of the Moroccan Professional Football League has announced the date for the Casablanca derby, which will pit the two giants of Moroccan football, Raja and Wydad, against each other in the 26th round of the Botola Pro.
After coordinating with the Casablanca authorities, the competition committee decided that this derby will take place on Saturday, April 12, at 19:00 GMT, which is 20:00 local time in Morocco.
Will the Casablanca derby be played without fans?
In anticipation of this eagerly awaited match, which will mark the opening of the Mohammed V complex after its renovation and upgrading to the latest international standards and technologies, calls to boycott the match have circulated on social media, coming from supporters of both teams.
According to the Moroccan daily Al-Mountakhab, the supporter groups of Wydad and Raja, after a recent meeting, have decided to boycott this encounter for several reasons. Among the reasons cited are the delay in reopening the Mohammed V stadium in Casablanca, a delay that has affected the results of both clubs, both nationally and internationally, as well as the early elimination of both teams in a season devoid of titles.
