Celtiis Benin Ligue 1: a top-of-the-table clash that lives up to the hype

In Benin, this season is delivering a gripping long-distance duel between Buffles and Sobemap. The two clubs have been trading places at the top of the table for several matchdays, with neither able to pull away for good.

On matchday 19 of the Celtiis Benin Ligue 1, Buffles showed real character. Travelling to Adjohoun, they were forced to play with a man down after a red card in the 65th minute. Ultimately, it was a decisive free kick from Youri Manime that allowed Buffles to clinch victory and reclaim top spot with 38 points. It was a hard-fought win, perfectly illustrating the conquering mentality instilled by coach Urbain HONFO.

Sobemap, on their side, failed to capitalize on their lead at the start of the round. Facing Espoir FC de Savalou, the dockers started strong through an early goal by Rachidou Razack. But Savalou struck back with force and determination. Goals from Promise, Sheun, and Henry Uche turned the game on its head, handing Espoir FC a crucial victory. This defeat drops Sobemap to 37 points, now one behind Buffles.

Buffles and Sobemap continue to trade places at the summit of this Celtiis Ligue 1, with neither able to break away. There are still 15 matchdays to go, and other teams like Coton FC, Loto-Popo FC, and ASPAC could still crash the party and shake up this title race.
