The Italian-Ivorian midfielder Issa Doumbia scored his first goal of the season for Sporting CP, on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, during the second matchday of the Champions League league phase. He scored his team’s second goal against RC Lens, contributing to the Portuguese side’s 2-0 away victory at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

Issa Doumbia found the back of the net in the 74th minute. Set up by Dane Silas Andersen, the midfielder doubled Sporting CP’s lead, after the Lisbon club had opened the scoring in the 22nd minute through Luis Suárez, assisted by Nestory Irankunda. This second goal allowed the Lisbon club to secure victory against Lens. With this win, Sporting made it two victories in two Champions League matches and moved onto six points.

A first goal after a league assist

This goal against Lens gets Issa Doumbia off the mark for the season in Sporting CP colours. Before this European fixture, the 22-year-old midfielder had played eight matches in the Portuguese league, with one assist to his name. He had also featured in Sporting’s opening Champions League match, a 3-1 victory over Galatasaray.

His appearance against Lens was therefore his tenth for the Portuguese club in all competitions this season. Starting in midfield, the Italy youth international made his place in the starting XI count with an important goal in a European away match.

Born on October 16, 2003, in Treviglio, Italy, Issa Doumbia holds Italian and Ivorian nationality. He completed most of his development in Italy before making a name for himself with Venezia. During the 2025-2026 season, he scored eight goals and provided five assists in 37 Serie B appearances, according to Opta Analyst statistics.

His performances opened the doors to Sporting CP in the summer of 2026. The midfielder is now continuing his development in Portugal, where he has just scored his first goal of the season on the European stage against RC Lens.
