CHAN 2025: Gabon brings back a precious draw from Senegal
Gabon achieved an encouraging result against Gambia in the first round of qualifying for the African Nations Championship CHAN 2025. The draw keeps them in contention for a second-round meeting with Algeria.
On Friday, the Stade Lat Dior in Thiès, Senegal, played host to the match between the “Panthères” and the “Scorpions”. Despite attempts on both sides, neither team managed to make the difference, and the match ended 0-0.
Gabon in a favorable position
This result, albeit without an away goal, puts Gabon in a favorable position ahead of the return leg at home on March 8. A win would give them a ticket to face Algeria in May, the latter being exempt from the first round as CHAN 2023 finalists.
It should be noted that the weekend will also see other matches, including Comoros-Malawi and a promising duel between South Africa and Egypt. The winners of these clashes will continue on to the second round, scheduled for May, in the hope of joining Uganda, Niger and Guinea in Group C of the CHAN finals.
