Chelsea: End of season for Wesley Fofana?
Wesley Fofana is once again going through a difficult phase in his career. The French defender for Chelsea has just undergone another hamstring surgery. An operation that could very well spell the end of his 2024-2025 season.
Everything had started so well this season with brilliant performances in the Premier League. Unfortunately, on December 1, 2024, during the Blues' victory against Aston Villa (3-0), he had to leave the field prematurely due to a hamstring injury in his right thigh. Medical examinations confirmed a muscle lesion, resulting in a three-month absence, precisely from December 2 to February 24, 2024.
Fofana's return to training at the end of February 2025 was met with optimism by the Blues' staff and supporters. His presence in the squad for the home game against Southampton on February 25 marked the end of nearly three months on the sidelines. The 24-year-old played two Premier League matches as a starter, notably against Leicester (1-0) and against Arsenal (0-1). However, at the beginning of April, Fofana felt a sharp pain in the same thigh and was left out of the Blues' squad.
"The club can confirm that defender Wesley Fofana has successfully undergone hamstring surgery today. Wesley was assessed by specialists this week after the 24-year-old suffered a muscle injury. Following this assessment, it was concluded that surgery would be necessary. The 24-year-old will now begin his recovery and rehabilitation with the club's medical team at Cobham over the coming weeks," officially stated Chelsea FC.
