Recent news reports close to Chelsea FC have revealed that the London club is very interested in signing a former Arsenal player, and it appears that the player is Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka.

The pursuit of Granit Xhaka has entered a new phase, with the club taking the next step in their negotiation process. According to sources, formal contact has now been established with Sunderland, the current employers of the 33-year-old Swiss midfielder, as talks begin to gather momentum.

Behind the scenes, it's Xabi Alonso who is driving the charge. The manager has made it abundantly clear that Xhaka is the piece he believes can anchor his midfield, and he's pushing hard to get the deal over the line. Both parties are currently locked in discussions over the finer details of the transfer structure, with optimism building that an agreement could be reached sooner rather than later.

Interestingly, this wouldn't be Xhaka's first taste of life in the English capital. Between 2016 and 2023, the veteran midfielder called Arsenal home, donning the red and white of the north London giants for seven seasons. Now, a return to London—though in different colors—could be on the cards, should the ongoing negotiations bear fruit.
