Chiefs earmark Reneilwe Letsholonyane for coaching role

Botswana FNB Premiership side Mochudi Centre Chiefs have shortlisted Reneilwe Letsholonyane for the vacant head coach role, Foot Africa has established.

This comes after the Gaborone-based outfit parted ways with head coach Miguel Corral Torreira on Monday, after a slow start to the 2026/27 campaign.

Appointed this year in January on a deal that runs until June 2027, the 35-year-old Spanish mentor registered 11 wins, three draws and five defeats in 19 matches.

The UEFA Pro License holder steered Chiefs to a fourth place finish last season, and leaves the team seventh after a solitary win, including as many draws and losses.

Now, sources have confirmed that the four-time Botswana champions have identified Letsholonyane as a potential candidate to take over from Torreira.

Notably, the former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder is no stranger to the Botswana topflight division, having coached Matebele FC to a 10th place finish in the 2025/26 season.

He was subsequently nominated for the Botswana FNB Premiership Coach of the Season award, but was beaten to the accolade by Sean Connor of Gaborone United.

However, he parted ways with Matebele FC upon the expiry of his contract at the end of last season, with the two parties unable to strike an agreement on improved terms.

‘Yeye’, as the 44-year-old mentor is affectionately known, is currently serving as assistant coach to his compatriot Thabo Senong at FC Platinum in the Zimbabwean PSL.

It's understood the ex-AmaZulu FC reserve team head coach is the frontrunner for the hotseat at Chiefs, who have Stanton ‘Stiga’ Fredericks as their Director of Football.

On the other hand, Lehlohonolo Seema is said to have also been included in the shortlist as an ambitious target, with the 2026/27 campaign gathering steam.

The Lesotho-born tactician is currently unattached after he was shown the exit door by Betway Premiership club Siwelele FC earlier this month after a string of poor results.
