Como: Cesc Fàbregas concerned after Assane Diao's injury

The injury to Assane Diao in the Champions League has raised concerns within the coaching staff of Como. The day after the match against Feyenoord Rotterdam, coach Cesc Fàbregas reacted to his Senegalese striker's departure through injury. While awaiting the results of the medical examinations, the Spanish coach hopes that taking him off early helped prevent his injury from worsening.

Concern remains over Assane Diao. The Senegalese international scored in the 18th minute against Feyenoord on Wednesday, 14 October, in the Champions League, but was forced to leave his teammates five minutes later after feeling pain in his left thigh.

The day after the match, which Como lost 3-2, Cesc Fàbregas hopes that his player was taken off in time to avoid a more serious injury.

“Diao felt that he could no longer run. We will assess his condition and hope we took him off before it was too late,” the Spanish coach explained after the match.

Fàbregas highlights the importance of his striker

Como's coach also emphasised Assane Diao's role in his tactical setup. The game plan prepared for the match against Feyenoord relied in particular on the Senegalese striker's qualities, with his goal allowing the Italians to take the lead.

“He is an important player. We saw that again today in the way we played and in his goal,” Fàbregas stressed.

Diao's early departure therefore deprived Como of an important player from the beginning of the match. The Italian club must now await the results of the medical examinations to determine the nature of his injury and the possible length of his absence.

At this stage, Cesc Fàbregas has confirmed neither the seriousness of the injury nor the length of any potential absence. The next medical updates will be decisive in determining the consequences of this incident for the remainder of the young Senegalese striker's season.
