Dani Carvajal in talks with Getafe
Dani Carvajal could ultimately remain in Spain. A free agent since leaving Real Madrid, the 34-year-old defender is currently negotiating with Getafe, according to Spanish daily ABC.
Talks already at an advanced stage
After leaving Real Madrid at the end of an exceptional spell, Carvajal has not announced his retirement. The Spaniard still wants to play and has been looking for several months for a new project to continue his career. According to ABC, talks with Getafe are progressing positively. The possibility of him undergoing a medical examination has reportedly even been discussed, with particular attention to his right knee, which will need to be thoroughly assessed.
However, the financial issue still needs to be resolved before a definitive agreement can be considered. In particular, Carvajal will have to agree to significantly lower his salary demands compared with what he earned at Real Madrid. The two parties will therefore have to reach an agreement on the terms of the contract.
A wealth of experience for Getafe
Carvajal left Real Madrid after making 451 appearances and winning 27 trophies with the club. His arrival would provide a considerable boost in experience for the team managed by José Bordalás. Getafe are currently going through a more difficult period, with just one win in their last six matches.
However, the club have qualified for the league phase of the Conference League. If negotiations are successful, Carvajal could therefore continue his career just a few kilometres from the Santiago Bernabéu, wearing the colours of another club from the Madrid region.
