Democratic Republic of Congo: Rachid Ghaflaoui arrives on St Eloi Lupopo's bench
Just days after Guy Bukasa's departure, Lupopo have found their new coach. The club officially announced the appointment of Moroccan manager Rachid Ghaflaoui during its ordinary general assembly.
The management of St Eloi Lupopo was searching for a coach well-versed in the realities of Congolese football. Rachid Ghaflaoui is no stranger to the scene. The Moroccan tactician previously led His Majesty Sanga Balende in the 2016-2017 season, steering the Mbuji-Mayi side to the preliminary rounds of CAF club competitions.
He is expected to arrive in Lubumbashi on July 13, 2026, where his mission will be to breathe new life into the Railmen. After finishing last season in fifth place during the playoff stage and missing out on continental qualification, the club is aiming for a return to the African stage this year.
To prepare properly, the team will hold a training camp in Tanzania, including participation in a friendly tournament as part of their pre-season program.
