Democratic Republic of the Congo: The Congo Eagles fall short of the double

Samurai Kinshasa came agonizingly close. After their 2-1 victory over Don Bosco, the Congo Eagles topped the Linafoot standings. All they needed was for Mazembe not to win in order to retain the title.

But the script turned harsh for the Eagles as the Ravens' 2-0 triumph over Celeste shattered the dream. With 30 points, Mazembe edged out the Eagles, who remained on 29 points at the end of the playoff stage.

In the final round, the Congo Eagles secured a 2-1 win over Don. After a dominant regular season and sitting atop the league, the Samurai stumbled with a 0-2 defeat to Mazembe in the eleventh playoff round, then drew 1-1 with Maniema Union in the penultimate round. These setbacks ultimately cost them the double.

The Eagles finished the season as runners-up, with plenty of regret. They must now regroup quickly and set their sights on the CAF Champions League.
