Deportivo La Coruña: Aubameyang moves closer to a return

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has resumed running after undergoing surgery on his right knee. As Deportivo La Coruña go through a difficult period in La Liga, the Gabonese striker is expected to strengthen an attack that has lost its leading scorer.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang can see light at the end of the tunnel. Having undergone surgery on September 24 after suffering an injury to the lateral meniscus of his right knee against Real Betis, the former Olympique de Marseille striker has returned to Deportivo’s Abegondo training ground. He has started running again as part of an individual rehabilitation programme. It is an encouraging step forward, even though his return to competitive action is not yet imminent.

Deportivo await their leading scorer

The Gabonese forward’s absence is being felt in Galicia. After a promising start to the season, Deportivo have become less consistent and are now without a win in five consecutive league matches. Their last La Liga victory came on September 5, against Villarreal.

Before his injury, Aubameyang had quickly settled in. With five goals and two assists in five La Liga appearances, he had established himself as one of the club’s main attacking threats. In particular, he scored in each of his first five league appearances, directly contributing to his team’s strong results.

His finishing and experience are now being missed by a team struggling to return to winning ways.

A return hoped for after the international break

Manager Antonio Hidalgo is closely monitoring his player’s progress. The Spanish coach has expressed optimism about his recovery, while refusing to announce a precise date for his return.

Deportivo Alavés’ visit, scheduled for November 21, appears to be a possible target if his rehabilitation continues positively. However, this prospect remains conditional on his ability to gradually regain his feel for the game and cope with the workload.
