Carlos Queiroz leaves the Ghana national team by mutual consent
Carlos Queiroz and the Ghana Football Association reached a mutual agreement to part ways, bringing an end to his time in charge after a turbulent opening to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign. The Portuguese boss had formally taken his place on the Black Stars' bench back in June 2026, overseeing a 1-1 friendly stalemate with Wales.
From there, he steered Ghana to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Ghanaians' journey was halted at the round of 32. His deal had run out once the tournament — staged across the United States, Canada and Mexico — wrapped up, yet the GFA chose to hand him a fresh contract.
That show of faith, however, could not withstand the weight of disappointing results in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, and his exit followed as a consequence. The Black Stars fell 2–0 to Côte d'Ivoire and then 4–2 to The Gambia.
Across seven international fixtures with Carlos Queiroz at the helm, Ghana managed only a single victory, alongside two draws and four losses. The Black Stars found the net five times while shipping ten at the other end.
