Di María reacts after Argentina's defeat in the final

Ángel Di María did not remain silent after the 2026 World Cup final. The day after Argentina's loss to Spain, the former Albiceleste winger shared a heartfelt message on social media to congratulate his former teammates.

World champion in 2022, Di María did not take part in this latest final, having retired from international football after Argentina's Copa América 2024 triumph. That didn't stop him from expressing his support for the national team:

The whole country is proud of you. Once again you've managed to unite Argentinians with your courage and commitment. You are legends, and no one can ever take that away from you. Five consecutive finals is a historic achievement. Thank you for everything, I love you all so much.

With this message, the 38-year-old reminded everyone that this generation will remain one of the brightest in Argentine football history, despite the defeat in the final. Over his career with La Albiceleste, Ángel Di María played 145 matches, scored 31 goals, and provided 32 assists. He leaves behind a significant legacy, highlighted by the 2022 World Cup victory and back-to-back Copa América titles.
