DR Congo: Why aren't Kabwit, Ahoka and Bongeli called up by Sébastien Desabre?
Speaking to the press this Friday at the FECOFA headquarters, Sébastien Desabre explained the absence of three youngsters from his two squads for the September international break. Their absence is a decision agreed upon with the U23 staff.
A decision made with the U23 team
Although they featured in his plans, Oscar Kabwit, Jules Ahoka and Faveurdi Bongeli will play in the U23 AFCON qualifiers against Mauritania. The Leopards boss stands by the decision:
Oscar Kabwit, Jules Ahoka and Faveurdi Bongeli were on my second list, but we spoke with the U23 team. They asked me to let them play in the U23 AFCON qualifiers against Mauritania. I have my eyes on them; they are the future of our national team.
Talents already in Europe
Two of them, Oscar Kabwit and Faveurdi Bongeli, play together in Switzerland for FC Luzern, while the third plays in England for Sunderland. All three were called up by Guy Bukasa to an expanded squad of 30 players for this continental U23 tournament.
