Durban City pull plug on proposed move for Rwanda international

Foot Africa has been led to believe that Betway Premiership side Durban City have pulled the plug on the proposed move to sign Lague Byiringiro.

The 25-year-old winger is unattached after parting ways with Police FC in his native Rwanda at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

He also turned out for 23-time Rwandan champions APR FC, before joining Swedish second-tier outfit Sandvikens IF in January 2023.

Byiringiro made a total of 39 appearances across all competitions during his spell in Europe, chipping in with nine goals and a solitary assist in the process.

Now, with the player eligible to sign for any team of his choice on a free transfer, he was undergoing assessment at Durban City in a bid to secure a contract.

However, sources have informed this publication the KwaZulu-Natal club opted against signing Byiringiro, who is said to have failed to impress.

The Rwanda international was expected to provide head coach Khalil Ben Youssef with a selection headache, owing to his extensive experience.

Whether the two parties will return to the negotiation table remains to be seen, with the player still seeking a new home where he can continue to ply his trade.
