Eli Junior Kroupi does not consider playing for Côte d'Ivoire

The 2025 edition of the UNFP Awards crowned Eli Junior Kroupi as Ligue 2’s best player. On loan this season from Bournemouth, the French second division champion with FC Lorient left a lasting impression with his dazzling performances and maturity on the pitch. He racked up 22 goals in 30 appearances in the competition.

Born in France to an Ivorian father and a mother of Portuguese descent, Eli Junior Kroupi is aware of his roots, but for now, his heart and international career are fully committed to the French national team project. Although his father, Eli Kroupi, was an Ivorian international footballer, the Lorient striker’s decision seems clear. Asked after receiving his Ligue 2 Player of the Year trophy, the Merlus star was unequivocal.

"I have Ivorian origins, and also Portuguese on my mother's side. But for now, I wear the colors of the French national team and I am very proud," said Junior Eli Kroupi. From 2022 to 2025, he has worn the jersey of France's youth teams at U16, U17, U18, U19, and U20 levels.
