Erzurumspor looks set to pull off a smart signing with Elisha Owusu. According to L’Équipe, the Ghanaian midfielder from Auxerre is expected to leave Ligue 1 to join the Turkish club. However, neither club has yet made the move official.

Elisha Owusu: a key figure at Auxerre

At 28 years old, Elisha Owusu has established himself as one of the leaders in the Auxerre dressing room and has even worn the captain's armband. Last season, the Ghanaian featured in 29 Ligue 1 matches, starting 27 of them, for around 2,350 minutes of play. He did not score or provide an assist in the league.

A former Lyon player, Owusu also had spells at Sochaux and Gent before joining Auxerre in January 2023. Notably, he played a part in the club's promotion back to Ligue 1.

A free transfer on the cards?

One of the interesting aspects of this transfer is the player's contract situation. L’Équipe reports that Owusu has one year left on his Auxerre contract, which could allow Erzurumspor to negotiate a low-cost deal for his arrival.

No transfer fee has yet been disclosed for the potential move. Owusu is expected to bring his versatility to the midfield. Able to play as a central midfielder or just in front of the defense, he also brings valuable experience from his time in France and Belgium.
