Following the recent victory in the Manchester derby over their rivals and unfriendly neighbors, Maresca expressed his great admiration for the notable figures who have passed through the club—including some who remain active with the team to this day—stating:

When Agüero left everyone was worried, but Erling arrived… Fernandinho left, then Rodri, David Silva left, then De Bruyne. One of the big achievements of this club has been to replace players… This is not easy though. Now I feel very lucky to have these three new midfielders: Enzo Fernández, Elliot Anderson, and Ayyoub Bouaddi.

Enzo Maresca appears set to build upon the squad he has inherited at Manchester City and the project established by Pep Guardiola—of which Maresca was once a part as the Spaniard's assistant—continuing the work, but this time as head coach.
