Eric Tinkler emerges as frontrunner to take over at African giants
Exclusive
Foot Africa has established that Eric Tinkler is in advanced talks to take over as the new head coach of Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 55-year-old mentor is currently unattached after parting ways with Betway Premiership side Sekhukhune United in April after a string of poor results.
He oversaw 38 matches in the Babina Noko dugout across all competitions, masterminding 16 wins, drawing 12 games, while losing the other 10 encounters.
Now, sources have informed this publication that the former Cape Town City boss is the leading candidate to succeed Abdul Karim Zito in the vacant hotseat of Kotoko.
The impending appointment is understood to be driven by newly installed Technical Director Stanley Menzo, who's said to be an admirer of Tinkler's work.
Having won the Carling Knockout Cup with Cape Town City and the MTN8 with the now-defunct SuperSport United, Tinkler is expected to bring stability at Kotoko.
The South African tactician has been tasked with guiding the club to league glory, with their last triumph dating back to the 2021/22 campaign.
Whether Tinkler will achieve the feat, provided his appointment gets over the line, remains to be seen as Kotoko finished in a disappointing eighth place last season.
