Etienne Eto’o Dreams of Cameroon Glory While Rising in La Liga
Etienne Eto’o son of legendary striker Samuel Eto’o, has set his sights on making history with the Cameroonian national team while also making waves in La Liga with Rayo Vallecano.
Following in His Father’s Footsteps
The 22 year old striker recently made his La Liga debut for Rayo Vallecano and hopes to feature against Real Madrid this weekend. After years of perseverance through Spain’s lower leagues, Eto’o's finally stepping onto the elite stage.
“I was born in Mallorca. I'm Cameroonian and I feel Cameroonian but also very Spanish. My father played for Cameroon and one of my challenges is to win something with Cameroon and prove to myself and others that I have succeeded” Eto’o said.
Journey to La Liga
Etienne’s road to Spain’s top tier hasn't been easy. Before joining Rayo Vallecano, he played for clubs like Poblense, Collado Villalba and Rayo Majadahonda. His persistence has paid off with outstanding record of 21 goal in 23 match for Vallecano’s reserve team this season.
He made his 1st team debut in both the Copa del Rey and La Liga, proving his talent and determination to establish himself at the highest level.
Relationship with Samuel Eto’o
Despite past speculation, Etienne insists he maintains good relationship with his father “The relationship with him now is very good. That mental stability has benefited me a lot because it has coincided with my best moment” he shared.
“For me, carrying my father’s surname's honor. I know he's super proud and excited about this new stage of my career”
Future Aspirations
With his growing confidence and impact at Rayo Vallecano, Etienne remains focused on his personal and international goals. He aims to contribute significantly to Cameroon’s future and hopes to carve out his own legacy beyond his father’s shadow.
“This whole year has been dream. I'm grateful to coach Inigo Perez who saw something in me and gave me the opportunity” Eto’o ended.
