European top 5: the ranking of Africa’s most decisive players

African players are shining in the five major European leagues. Lassine Sinayoko leads a particularly tight ranking behind first place.

The 2026-2027 season confirms the important role of African footballers in major European competitions. According to the ranking presented, which adds up goals and assists across all competitions, Malian Lassine Sinayoko occupies first place with 10 contributions. Behind him, two players share second place, while five others are grouped just one contribution behind.

Sinayoko takes the lead, with Maza and Doumbia in pursuit

Lassine Sinayoko sits alone at the top with ten decisive contributions. His attacking importance was further illustrated by his performance of two goals and two assists against Rennes, in Paris FC's 4-3 victory. The Malian forward therefore holds a two-contribution lead over his closest pursuers.

In second place, Ibrahim Maza and Kamory Doumbia have eight contributions each. The former is showcasing his creativity in the colors of Bayer Leverkusen, particularly in the Bundesliga. The latter continues his progress in French football, in a Ligue 1 where several African talents are already making their mark.

Five players tied on seven contributions

The battle remains wide open behind the leading trio. Bachir Belloumi (Algeria), Yassir Zabiri (Morocco), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon), Ernest Nuamah (Ghana) and Serhou Guirassy (Guinea) have all recorded seven decisive contributions, according to the graphic. The group includes both young players on the rise and forwards already experienced on the European stage.

This grouping highlights the ranking's density: a single performance featuring a goal and an assist can significantly alter the hierarchy. The upcoming matches, particularly for players competing in the Champions League, could quickly reshuffle the standings.
