AFCON final Morocco - Senegal: a fake CAS document fans the flames!
An alleged CAS decision awarding AFCON 2025 to Senegal circulated online before being identified as a fake document.
The dispute between Morocco and Senegal over the title of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations has taken a new turn. In recent hours, a document presented as an official decision by the Court of Arbitration for Sport has circulated widely on social media. It claimed that Senegal had won its case. In reality, the text is fake and the CAS has not yet issued a final ruling.
Several inconsistencies in the document
The alleged decision featured logos, stamps and a signature supposedly originating from the Lausanne-based body. However, several details quickly raised suspicions: the mention of AFCON 2026 even though the case concerns the 2025 edition, the absence of precise legal references and a style that was not consistent with that of an arbitral award.
The text even went so far as to congratulate Senegal and its supporters, an unusual tone for this type of document. Moreover, this is not the first time that a fake decision attributed to the CAS has circulated in connection with this case.
Official verdict is still awaited
The hearing was held in Lausanne on October 8, and the case is now under deliberation. For now, no official date has been announced for the final decision.
Reports suggest that a verdict could be delivered between October 18 and 22, but this has not been confirmed. Until an official CAS statement is published, any alleged decision circulated online should therefore be treated with caution.
