Everton: Elon Musk urged to buy the club to rival Jeff Bezos
As Everton explores the possibility of a majority sale, former player Michael Ball has issued a call to Elon Musk. He is urging him to invest in the English club amid its rivalry with Jeff Bezos, who is associated with Liverpool’s ownership.
Elon Musk has been invited to enter English football through an unexpected gateway: Everton. On October 9, 2026, Michael Ball, a former Toffees defender, publicly urged the American billionaire to buy the club, as its owners seek new options for its ownership structure.
“Come on, Elon Musk, get involved and take on your rival Jeff Bezos once again,” the former player said in a message posted on X.
His call refers to Bezos’s presence among Liverpool’s owners, Everton’s arch-rivals.
Everton open to a majority sale
The context is fuelling speculation about the club’s future. The Friedkin Group, which has owned Everton since December 2024, has announced that it is exploring new investment possibilities, including the sale of a majority stake. Moelis & Company has been appointed to assist with the process.

This opening of the ownership structure has reignited questions about the identity of a potential future buyer. Michael Ball has chosen to put forward Elon Musk, the businessman at the helm of several companies, including Tesla and SpaceX. For now, his intervention is a public appeal rather than an announcement of negotiations between Musk and Everton.
Jeff Bezos at the heart of the rivalry with Liverpool
The former Everton defender is drawing on another development in English football. A consortium involving Jeff Bezos has reached an agreement for a minority stake in Liverpool. The club remains controlled by Fenway Sports Group.
The prospect of Amazon founder being associated with Liverpool gave Michael Ball an argument for calling on his billionaire rival. His message plays on the sporting rivalry between the city’s two clubs and on the more widely publicised rivalry between the two American entrepreneurs.
At this stage, there is no indication that would allow anyone to say Elon Musk is considering responding to this appeal. The possibility of a takeover of Everton therefore remains hypothetical.
