Family Call: Fabián Ruiz leaves the Spanish national team camp for a family reason!
Spain will take the field against Czechia in today's UEFA Nations League clash without Fabian Ruiz, after the midfielder departed the national team's training camp in Oviedo ahead of schedule and made his way to Paris. As Marca reports, he left to be present for the birth of his first child.
Good news for Fabián Ruiz
The joyful news arrived in the middle of an extended camp with the national side, and Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente granted the midfielder permission to step away so he could share such a special moment with his family.
Replacing him in the matchday squad, however, is simply not an option. Pau Cubarsí and Carlos Espejo, neither of whom was named on the roster for the Czechia fixture, are likewise unable to feature, since UEFA regulations demand that the final squad list be submitted on the eve of the match.
Spain, it should be noted, arrive at this fixture in scintillating form. Their UEFA Nations League campaign opened with a 3-2 victory over England on English soil, followed by a commanding 4-1 dismantling of Croatia. Those results have left them with six points and perched at the top of Group A3.
The Spain–Czechia encounter is set to take place on October 3 in Oviedo. Spain will therefore go into battle without one of their key midfielders, a player who has instead been given the chance to embrace an important family milestone.
