FC Barcelona: Frenkie de Jong responds to rumors
Injured in the knee during the 2026 World Cup, Frenkie de Jong will miss several weeks of competition with FC Barcelona. This situation has frustrated the Catalans and sparked a flurry of rumors.
But this Friday, the Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong broke his silence to set the record straight. "I've noticed there's a lot of noise and false information about me lately, and it really bothers me, so I wanted to come here and clarify a few things. I've spent seven years at this club, and playing for Barcelona has always been my dream. I still have big dreams and goals to achieve with the team. I'm suffering (from the injury) and I'm very disappointed. What I love most is playing football. Someone fell on me during training at the World Cup and things took a turn for the worse." he said.
The midfielder gave his version of events: "I want to explain to the public what happened: we did some tests and everyone told me I could keep playing. That's why I kept playing. After the World Cup elimination, I went back to the club to undergo further tests to make sure everything was okay. They revealed that the injury was worse than it had been in the United States. It was a brutal shock that nobody expected. Now, I have to stop and focus on my recovery... I'm currently working specifically with physical trainers. We've put together a recovery plan with everyone at the club on board."

The player concluded with these words: "I see a lot of information saying the opposite, but it's false. These are lies meant to tarnish my image and change how people perceive me. For example, the lie from Gerard Romero (a pro-Barça journalist) claiming I refused to play against Atlético (the Champions League second leg). I wanted to speak today to let go of the anger inside me so I can focus 100% on my recovery from now on."
