Foot Africa has been led to believe that Romanian giants FCSB have no intention of sanctioning a sale for Bafana Bafana defender Siyabonga Ngezana in the off-season.

The 28-year-old stalwart has been a mainstay at the heart of defence since joining the club on a long-term deal from Kaizer Chiefs in July 2023.

Ngezana helped FCSB end a nine-year league title drought in his debut season, winning both the Defender of the Season and Best Foreign Footballer awards in the process.

With 106 appearances and three goals with two assists for FCSB, he has won a total of four trophies since his arrival in Romania, including the Super Cup last term.

The Chiefs academy product has ultimately drawn interest across Europe owing to his exploits, with clubs from France, England, Italy, and Turkey keen on his services.

However, this publication has been told that FCSB are standing firm, and are currently not interested in facilitating a transfer for Ngezana as he's considered untouchable.

“According to the club, Ngezana has a valid contract and no one is considering selling him at the moment. He has now undergone a long-awaited surgery,” a well-placed source told Foot Africa.

"When he returns, he will be fighting for a place in the squad. Joyskim Dawa and Mihai Popescu form the centre-back pairing, and there's also Andre Duarte. The club doesn't want to part with him.

Notably, Ngezana has a deal that will keep him at FCSB until June 2027, but the eight-time Romanian champions retain a two-year option.

Meanwhile, despite damaging his meniscus back in February, the South Africa international made 34 appearances across all competitions last season.

Now, having gone under the knife, the player will be eager to swiftly return to full fitness as he was omitted from the Bafana Bafana squad for the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.
