Fernando da Cruz issues Kaizer Chiefs transfer update

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Fernando da Cruz has provided an update on the club's plans in the market ahead of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) off-season transfer window deadline on Tuesday, 22 September.

The Glamour Boy have brought in six players, including Thabo Moloisane, Renaldo Leaner, Langelihle Phili, Adolf Mtasingwa Bitegeko, and Faiz Abrahams on loan from Stellenbosch FC, while Khanyisa Mayo signed a permanent deal.

On the other hand, Chiefs parted ways with influential midfielder Thabo Cele, George Matlou, Tashreeq Morris, Gaston Sirino, Given Msimango, Ashley du Preez, Glody Lilepo, Aden McCarthy, and Happy Mashiane, while a host of youngsters went out on loan.

With the deadline on the horizon, da Cruz has opened the door for more arrivals at Naturena, but insists the club won't sign players for the sake of bringing in new faces, and says he's happy with the current crop of players at his disposal.

“I'm happy about the squad, if there's one big opportunity maybe we will take this opportunity, but I don't want to take a player for the sake of signing. So, for the moment I'm happy about that,” said the Chiefs boss.

While he is open to more signings, the 54-year-old French tactician is pleased with the gradual progress Chiefs are making under his tutelage, with Amakhosi unbeaten in their first six league outings of the 2026/27 campaign.

“We are disappointed about the result today [vs Polokwane City], but I think we are on the right direction about the adaptation of the players in our game model,” added da Cruz.

Chiefs return to action with a Betway Premiership clash against Golden Arrows at Mbombela Stadium on Sunday, as they look to get back to winning ways after settling for a one-all draw with Polokwane City in their last fixture.
