FIFA: Donald Trump lands a lucrative deal
Gianni Infantino and Donald Trump are once again making headlines this Wednesday, months after the 2026 World Cup.
According to an investigation by Le Monde, FIFA signed a seven-year and seven-month contract in spring 2025 to occupy 450 m² of office space in Trump Tower in New York. The contract was signed with a company run by Eric Trump, the US president’s son, for a total amount close to $4 million (€3.5 million). The striking aspect of the deal is that the premises would be used very little, with no permanent employees.
Trump, FIFA offers reassurances
For information, the annual rent for the premises would be around $470,000 (€405,000), to which nearly $100,000 (€86,000) in additional costs must be added. According to Le Monde, FIFA did not consider any other location, despite internal concerns about a potential conflict of interest.
The governing body also insists that it followed its procedures and paid the market rate. It is an embarrassing affair for Infantino, whose close relationship with Trump was notably illustrated by the presentation of a FIFA Peace Prize to the US president last December.
