FIFA: Gianni Infantino’s new $6 billion project
Gianni Infantino is set to make headlines in the media once again in the coming days. FIFA is expected to propose a package of more than $6 billion to finance the development of football worldwide.
The project will focus on the 2027–2030 period, according to information from The Athletic. It even plans to increase the amounts paid to each member association over four years to $25 million, compared with the $10 million initially planned, while also allocating $99 million to each of the six confederations.
As part of this programme, the body led by Gianni Infantino would draw more than $3.5 billion from its reserves. This would be made possible by the exceptional commercial revenue generated by the 2026 World Cup, estimated at $15 billion.
A proposal to ease tensions?
FIFA’s new proposal comes amid tensions surrounding the organisation’s governance. This follows in particular the abandonment of the FIFA Forward Enterprise project, which planned to open 20% of its commercial and event-related activities to private investors close to Donald Trump.
