Flávio Amado takes the helm at Petro de Luanda
Flávio Amado, the iconic former Angola striker, has been appointed head coach of Petro de Luanda as of May 2, 2025. The former Palanca Negra international replaces Ricardo José. The club officially announced the decision, banking on their former player’s experience and on-field expertise to inject new energy into the squad.
Born in Luanda in 1979, Flávio Amado kicked off his professional career at Petro de Luanda, where he quickly established himself as a clinical goal scorer. He then took his talents abroad, most notably shining in Egypt with Al Ahly, lifting several continental trophies (four-time Egyptian Premier League champion, double Egyptian Cup winner, and four-time Egyptian Super Cup winner). On the international stage, he remains to this day the only Angolan player to have scored in a World Cup, netting in the 2006 edition in Germany.
After hanging up his boots, Flávio transitioned into coaching. He served as assistant coach for Petro de Luanda’s first team from 2015 to 2021, before taking charge of the B team. Under his guidance, the side clinched the Luanda provincial championship three years running, a testament to his knack for developing young talent.
