Former Orlando Pirates boss Jose Riveiro advances in Swedish Cup
Former Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro has guided AIK Fotboll to a commanding 3-0 victory over Pitea in the Svenska Cupen on Thursday.
Kevin Filling broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute, before Wilmer Olofsson doubled the lead eight minutes after the hour mark.
Riveiro's men put the game to bed thanks to a goal from Adrian Helm deep in stoppage time, sealing a spot in the group stages of the Swedish cup.
Notably, this is AIK's third consecutive win across all competitions, having scored 10 goals and conceded four during that period.
The 50-year-old mentor took over the reins in January before the commencement of the league in Sweden, signing a deal until December 2028.
He arrived on the back of a tumultuous spell with Egyptian giants Al Ahly, where he was sacked three months into the job after a string of poor results.
Contrary to his stay in Cairo, Riveiro enjoyed a trophy-laden stint with Pirates, guiding the club to five domestic cup titles during his reign.
Riveiro, meanwhile, will now prepare his troops for a visit from Hammarby in a league clash at Strawberry Arena on Sunday, 30 August.
