Nigeria, like all African national teams, played the 5th and 6th matchdays of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March 2025. Eric Chelle initially shortlisted 39 players before revealing his final squad against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

Frank Onyeka was included in the provisional list of the Super Eagles for these fixtures. Unfortunately, coach Eric Chelle did not call up the FC Augsburg player for the final Nigeria squad against the Amavubi and the Warriors. This decision frustrated the 27-year-old midfielder.

"I was quite sad, but the coach knows better than anyone which players he wants to use," confided Frank Onyeka.

Onyeka made his debut with the Nigerian national team in September 2020. Since then, he has earned a total of 27 caps with the Super Eagles. He hopes to update his tally during the team's next gathering.

"But I hope I will be available for the next matches. I am always available, so I hope to be with the team. We are in a difficult situation, but we still have a chance, we just need to win our next four matches and hope to qualify," concluded Frank Onyeka.
