Friendly international: Nigeria to face Russia in a friendly on 6 October in Nizhny Novgorod
Nigeria has secured a high-profile opponent for the October international break. The Super Eagles will face Russia in a friendly on Tuesday 6 October 2026 at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium.
Match confirmed
The fixture has been officially confirmed by Jairo Pachon of Eurodatasports, the Nigerian Football Federation’s FIFA agent. It will be played at the 44,000-capacity stadium in Nizhny Novgorod.
A reunion
This will be the second time in 16 months that the two nations have met. In June 2025, Nigeria and Russia drew 1–1. The Super Eagles will therefore have the opportunity to do better this time, against a Russian side that has not played in any official competitions and is coming off the back of a series of friendly matches.
A busy schedule for Nigeria
This match comes exactly one week after a key fixture: Matchday 2 of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. After Madagascar, Nigeria will travel to face Guinea-Bissau’s Djurtus on 29 September. This sequence of fixtures will allow the coaching staff to assess the squad between official competition and a high-profile friendly.
