Friendly: Togo showcases its power against Benin
In a friendly match played this Tuesday in Morocco, the Togo national team completely dominated their Benin counterparts, cruising to a resounding 5-1 victory.
Benin started the match strongly, with Felipe Santos opening the scoring in the 7th minute. But Togo responded swiftly: in the 38th minute, Mohamed Tijani scored an own goal, bringing Togo level. The first half ended in a 1-1 draw.
After the break, the Eagles shifted into a higher gear. Koumlavi put Togo ahead in the 57th minute, before Kevin Denkey dazzled with a brace in the 67th and 73rd minutes. Kodjo Fo-Doh Laba capped off the festival with a fifth goal in the 87th minute.
Despite Benin's strong start, the team simply couldn't withstand Togo's pressure. Coach Gernot Rohr fielded a lineup missing eight key players, including Sessi D'Almeida, Steve Mounié, and Junior Olaitan, a factor that heavily impacted the team's performance.
With this victory, Togo extends its unbeaten streak against Benin, having not tasted defeat against the Squirrels since March 2019.
