Gabriel Mureșan dies at 44

Romanian football is in mourning. Gabriel Mureșan, former national team player, has died at the age of 44.

The former defensive midfielder made his mark at CFR Cluj, where he won several trophies, including three Romanian league titles and three national cups. His impressive performances earned him a place in the Romanian national team, for which he played nine matches and delivered two assists.

After ending his playing career in 2017, Mureșan ventured into local politics, becoming the mayor of Apold. According to reports from Romania, the former player suffered a sudden illness after diving into a lake following a sauna session. Paramedics were unable to save him.
