Ghana: André Ayew calls on government to develop football
André Ayew recently opened up in an interview. During the media appearance, the former OM player said the government is determined to restore Ghanaian football to its former glory.
According to André Ayew, the government's decision to grant one million Ghanaian cedis (GHS) to each Premier League club demonstrates its commitment to the development of football. Appearing on the Obi One podcast, hosted by former Chelsea and Nigeria midfielder John Obi Mikel, Ayew also explained that improving infrastructure and establishing a clear development strategy should be priorities for those responsible for Ghanaian football.
“The main problem is infrastructure. If we do not have the necessary infrastructure, it means that the planning is not good,” he said.

André Ayew questioned how available resources are being used, particularly the funding allocated to Ghanaian football under the FIFA Forward programme. In his view, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the government must work together to develop a comprehensive plan for the development of the sport.

“But is the money available? As for the funding, according to the information I have, we know that the FIFA Forward programme exists… We do not know what this money is being used for. That is not the main issue. What I think is that, with or without this money, our country, or our federation, must develop a plan with the government and the relevant officials. Without the government, it is not possible,” he said.
