Ghana: Caleb Yirenkyi scores his first goal for the Black Stars
If Ghana is still searching for a spark in their preparations for the 2026 World Cup, they've certainly found their new gem. In the 1-1 draw forced by Wales on Tuesday night in Cardiff, Caleb Yirenkyi stole the spotlight by netting his first international goal in a Black Stars shirt.
In the 65th minute, Caleb Yirenkyi broke the deadlock, opening the scoring after a brilliant team move to notch his debut goal for the Black Stars. Unfortunately for Ghana, they conceded a late equalizer, and the match ended 1-1.
A meteoric rise since his debut
Since making his first appearance for the national team in September 2025 at a very young age, the 20-year-old has confirmed his upward trajectory—one he also demonstrates at club level. His standout performances in the Danish Superliga with Nordsjælland have already made him one of the most sought-after young midfielders in Europe.
Carlos Queiroz may well count on his energy, current form, and growing confidence, along with his European experience, for the 2026 World Cup.
