Ghana: Carlos Queiroz calls up two new players and recalls five established internationals
Carlos Queiroz unveiled his list of 24 players this Friday for the Ghana's upcoming fixtures. The Black Stars head coach has called up two new players, Jan Gyamerah and Ronald Donkor, while Mohammed Kudus, Alexander Djiku, Nathaniel Adjei, Ibrahim Sulemana and Ibrahim Osman return to the squad.
Jan Gyamerah and Ronald Donkor have received their first call-ups to the Ghana national team. The former, a 31-year-old right-back, plays for SV Elversberg in the German second division. He has made four appearances for his club since the start of the 2026-2027 season.
Ronald Donkor plays for the New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer. The midfielder has been rewarded for his recent performances with the American club and joins the Black Stars squad for the first time.
Kudus and four other players return
The return of Mohammed Kudus is one of the main changes in this squad. The West Ham player missed the 2026 World Cup because of an injury that kept him sidelined for several months. He returns to the national team after making his comeback.
Alexander Djiku, Nathaniel Adjei, Ibrahim Sulemana and Ibrahim Osman have also been recalled. Adjei in particular returns to the Black Stars after nearly a year away, while Osman and Sulemana rejoin the squad after missing the last World Cup.
Jordan Ayew is also included in the squad, while Thomas Partey has not been selected. The group remains largely made up of players who featured at the 2026 World Cup.
CĂŽte dâIvoire followed by Gambia
Ghana will begin its 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign away to CĂŽte dâIvoire on September 24 in BouakĂ©. The Black Stars will then host Gambia on September 29 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The international window will conclude with a friendly against Morocco on October 4 in Tangier.
Carlos Queiroz therefore begins this new phase with a squad combining players who featured at the World Cup, returning players and first-time call-ups.
