"I don’t live in Ronaldo’s shadow!": Mbappe draws his own path at Real Madrid

Kylian Mbappe insists he's no desire to live in Cristiano Ronaldo’s shadow at Real Madrid saying he hopes to build his own legacy at the Spanish giants while acknowledging that the Portuguese legend remains the benchmark in the club’s history.

Speaking to MARCA after receiving the Golden Boot award, the 25 years old reflected on his 1st full season in Spain and his ambitions with Los Blancos.

"Every child dreams of scoring goals, The Golden Boot's special but team trophies matter most. I’d be even happier if we win La Liga and I get another Golden Boot.. that would be perfect"

On his favourite goal and Bernabeu memories

Mbappe chose his first goal at the Santiago Bernabeu against Real Betis as his most memorable moment so far.

"It felt magical. that goal started my story here" he said.

Comparing Madrid & PSG

"They’re completely different clubs, PSG's younger.. Real Madrid has deeper history. Both are among the best in the world but Madrid’s culture is unique ... it’s the biggest club in football" he explained.

On Cristiano Ronaldo’s legacy

"Cristiano's number one here. He scored 450 goals in 9 year , I’ve been here only 18 months. I can’t compare myself to him, It’s honour just to have my name mentioned alongside his but I want to follow my own path and win every title possible" Mbappe admitted.

Praise for Xabi Alonso

Mbappe praised manager Xabi Alonso, saying:

"Every coach I’ve had has his own philosophy. Xabi’s ideas are different from Ancelotti’s but we’re understanding him more each day. We haven’t won anything yet but we’re on the right path"
