Ibrahim Diabaté courted in Switzerland and Turkey
Ibrahim Diabaté's future looks set to be eventful. According to Göteborgs-Posten (GP), several clubs are fighting to sign the Ivorian striker from GAIS, who has returned to Sweden following the end of his loan at Deportivo Alavés.
GAIS already preparing for his departure
Loaned to the Spanish club during the winter transfer window, Diabaté made 10 La Liga appearances and scored 2 goals. These performances were deemed insufficient to convince Alavés to trigger his buyout option. Despite returning to GAIS under contract, his future does not appear to lie in the Allsvenskan.
GAIS sporting director Magnus Sköldmark has admitted that the club did not expect to see their striker remain for long. Servette FC is among the most serious contenders, while several Turkish teams are also reportedly monitoring the situation. Wearing GAIS colors, the 26-year-old Ivorian international made headlines by finishing as top scorer in the Swedish league with 18 goals, following his free transfer from Västerås SK.
Our take
After turning heads with his performances in Sweden, Ibrahim Diabaté still commands significant market value despite a low-profile stint in La Liga. Servette FC and several Turkish clubs could offer him a fresh opportunity to reignite his career in a competitive league.
