Ibrahim Salah: the Moroccan set to leave Switzerland

Royal Antwerp is on the verge of pulling off a smart move in the transfer market. The Belgian club is reportedly close to an agreement to sign Ibrahim Salah, currently at FC Basel, according to Het Nieuwsblad.

A split after just one season in Basel

Having arrived in Switzerland last summer for around €2 million, Ibrahim Salah failed to establish himself as a key player for FC Basel. His lack of regular playing time has led both parties to consider parting ways. The Swiss club is expected to approve his departure, although the exact transfer fee has yet to be disclosed.

In search of an additional winger after signing Maxime Busi and Michael Frey, Antwerp has set its sights on Salah to bolster their attacking options. The 24-year-old winger is said to have already agreed to return to the Jupiler Pro League, a competition he knows well from his impressive spell at Gent.

A new chapter after Rennes and Brest

Before his stint in Switzerland, Salah featured in Ligue 1 with Rennes and on loan at Stade Brestois, racking up a total of 49 appearances and 7 goals in France. His return to Belgium represents a chance to revive a career that had slowed down after leaving Gent.

Back in Belgium, he is expected to find a familiar setting, having made his name at Gent before joining Stade Rennais for over €6 million. Antwerp’s decision looks to be a calculated bet on a player who has already proven his worth in a highly competitive league.
