IFK Norrköping will not renew Stephen Bolma's contract
Stephen Bolma’s time at IFK Norrköping is coming to an end. Having arrived in Sweden in 2023, the Ghanaian midfielder will not be offered a contract extension by the club, with his current deal expiring this winter. According to NT-sporten, the club’s management has decided to part ways with the 21-year-old after the season.
A spell disrupted by injuries
Stephen Bolma joined IFK Norrköping from the De Visser Academy in 2023, with the ambition of gradually establishing himself in Swedish football. However, his time at the club was heavily disrupted by physical problems. In three seasons, the Ghanaian midfielder has made just nine official appearances, scoring one goal.
This limited involvement partly explains IFK Norrköping’s decision not to offer him a new contract. According to NT-sporten, the player will therefore leave the club when his contract expires this winter.
Our analysis
Stephen Bolma’s departure is above all a consequence of a career hampered by injuries. His potential is not necessarily being called into question, but his limited number of appearances has prevented him from establishing himself permanently in the team. At 21, however, Bolma still has time to relaunch his career. His next destination will be particularly important: the objective will be to regain consistency, playing time and, above all, an environment that allows him to play a run of matches.
For Norrköping, the decision also appears to be linked to the need to prepare for a possible return to the top flight. If the club confirms its promotion to the Allsvenskan, it will need to strengthen its squad and have players capable of providing greater physical and sporting guarantees. Bolma’s departure should therefore be made official at the end of the season, with no new destination known for the time being.
