Despite their defeat against Mali (0-3) in a match counting for the 5th day of the qualifiers, the Coelacanths are still in contention for a spot in the 2026 World Cup.

In a statement given to the Comoros Football Portal, the Italian coach took aim at the dual-nationality players.

We are not in a position to beg or kneel before anyone [...] I cannot guarantee a player that they will start every match, wear the number 10 jersey, or be the captain. It is not possible.

The spectacular rise of Comoros

The Comoros national team has become highly competitive on the continental stage since their epic run in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, crowned with a qualification for the round of 16.

The Arab selection will be one to watch in upcoming competitions, particularly the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
