In Bold National Team Decision: Buffon’s Son Chooses Czech Republic Over Italy!
Louis Thomas Buffon, son of legendary goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has officially declared for the Czech national team, turning down the chance to follow in his father’s footsteps with Italy.
The 17 year old winger who recently made his senior debut for Serie B side Pisa joined the Czech Republic U18 squad for training camp ahead of prestigious tournament in Portugal where they will face England, France and the host nation.
Why He Chose the Czech Republic?
Born in Turin, Buffon'd the option to represent Italy but opted for his mother’s homeland instead. In interview with the Czech Football Association he explained his reasoning:
“I discussed it with my family and we decided that playing for the Czech Republic was the best choice for my football career and development”
“My mother was thrilled but my father was also excited because it was my first national team call up.”
Buffon acknowledged his Czech heritage but admitted he's still learning the language:
“I don’t speak Czech well yet but when I knew I might come here, I started learning. I use Duolingo for about 10 minute every day”
Facing Italy in the Future?
Despite his deep Italian roots, Buffon remains focused on his professional growth:
“I was born and raised in Italy but to be 100% professional, every match must be important whether against Italy or any other team.”
A Family Legacy
His father, Gianluigi Buffon, World Cup winning icon with 176 caps for Italy, married Czech model Alena Seredová in 2011. Though they separated in 2014, their son's now embracing his maternal heritage on the international stage.
