Lamine Yamal continues to impress the biggest figures in football. As the FC Barcelona forward enjoys a remarkable start to the season and once again features among the contenders for the Ballon d’Or, Andrés Iniesta had nothing but praise for him.

“What Yamal is doing is not normal”

Former Barça legend Andrés Iniesta believes that the performances produced by Lamine Yamal at his age go far beyond what can be expected of a young player.

What he is doing is not normal. If it were, there would be more players capable of doing it. What is beautiful is his ambition, his simplicity and everything he still has ahead of him at his age.

The former Spanish midfielder also appreciates the young player’s mindset, particularly his ambition and spontaneity. According to Iniesta, Yamal still has enormous room for improvement, and his future looks particularly promising given what he is already achieving at just 19 years old.

Impressive statistics

Since making his first-team debut for FC Barcelona in April 2023, Yamal has gradually established himself as one of the Catalan club’s key players. The winger has now made 159 appearances in a Barça shirt, scoring 57 goals and providing 58 assists.

His start to the 2026-2027 season has been particularly impressive. After the first seven rounds of La Liga, he has already scored seven goals and provided four assists. These performances once again place him among the leading candidates for the Ballon d’Or, after he already came close to winning the prestigious award the previous year.
