Inter Miami: Casemiro's arrival sparks investigation
Casemiro may have just been officially unveiled, but he's already at the heart of a storm.
Indeed, Major League Soccer (MLS) has announced the launch of an investigation into the Florida franchise. Inter Miami stands accused of violating league rules regarding the signing of Brazilian midfielder Casemiro.
At the center of the controversy is the so-called "discovery rights" system—a unique MLS regulation granting a club priority to negotiate with a player before any other contact is made. In this case, Los Angeles Galaxy held the discovery rights to Casemiro.
As a result, Inter Miami did not have authorization to negotiate with the Brazilian star and will now have to pay a fee to their rival. While a deal has reportedly been reached between the two franchises for the former Manchester United midfielder's move to Miami, the compensation amount could be adjusted depending on the outcome of the investigation.
